(SSC) Shiatsu101: Beginner’s Guide to Shiatsu Therapy

Interested in learning simple but effective techniques to improve health and aid in  relaxation?  If so, this is the course for you!

Shiatsu is a popular style of Oriental Bodywork that can help you to maintain better health and ease the aches and stresses of daily life.  This introductory course will teach you how to provide and receive a full shiatsu massage treatment using correct shiatsu therapeutic massage techniques through hands on practice.

Students will also learn:

backshiatsu

– the history of shiatsu and traditional Chinese medicine

– basic shiatsu theory, holding pressure, point location and reasons for triggering those points in relation to overall health benefits.

-treatment plans which are designed for various conditions affecting the following areas: back, neck and shoulder pain, head, arms, legs and feet

– self shiatsu techniques

– meditation, breathing exercises which promote better overall health
– meridian stretches which are taught to shiatsu student therapists. These stretches are designed to help increase circulation in the body both blood and energy levels are positively effected.

– health and wellness tips for the future

-pair work is required for practical learning

We highly recommend this course to anyone interested in learning about well being, balanced lifestyle, shiatsu techniques and becoming more in tune with the body and mind connection.

About the Instructors:

Drazen Krivokuca

Involved in the healing arts since 1996, Drazen is a committed practitioner and instructor. Drazen graduated from the SSC Shiatsu Diploma Program in 2007 and the Acupuncture Diploma Program in 2009  Additionally, he studied at the Ontario College of Reflexology and Serbia’s College of Rehabilitation, Fractures and Amputations.  This combination of healing modalities allows Drazen to provide harmonized treatments and brings a depth of understanding to his teaching.

Kimberley Yong-Yow                                                                                                                   

Kimberley graduated from the Shiatsu Diploma Program in 2006, from the Acupuncture Diploma Program in 2009, and the Japanese Acupuncture Program in 2011.  Kimberley is a professional therapist offering integrative treatments as well as a Shiatsu 101 instructor.  Her education and internship with Tak Tsurusaki has given Kimberley a deep understanding of the human body.  She truly embodies the shiatsu heart both in her instruction and daily lifestyle.

T’agyol Adler                                                                                                                              

Is a practitioner of zen shiatsu and acupuncture and holds diplomas in both disciplines. Starting in 1998 he began his studies in acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine. In 1999 he started what would become a 10 year training in zen shiatsu. During this time he learned how to both practice and teach zen shiatsu and TCM. He continues to develop his practice and is currently studying Chinese herbal medicine. He is a member in good standing with the OAATCM and Zen Shiatsu Society of Canada. T’agyol believes in the study and practice of shiatsu and TCM as life practices which benefit both the patient and practitioner.

Leny Carbone                                                                                                                              

Began studying Shiatsu in 1985 and has been teaching since 1993. He is certified in Zen Shiatsu Therapy, Acupuncture, Chinese Tuina Massage & Reiki. Leny is a 4th Dan black belt in Shotokan Karate & has participated in a number of Zen meditation retreats. He has also taken many classes in Nature awareness & Philosophy at the tracker school in Asbury New Jersey. He has traveled to both China and Japan. His dedication to Shiatsu has led him to teach an integrated approach to Shiatsu called Earth Shiatsu® using the modalities of meditation, nature awareness, martial arts & healing, where the focus is on using the Ki of the Earth to send and receive. He practices at Clear Stream Clinic in Toronto.

Price:        $300 + HST

 

Accreditation: This course is offered several times each year with a variety of schedules.  It is an excellent introduction to the career training diploma.

A letter of attendance will be issued at the end of this course.

Registration: Please call 416-323-1818 to register for this course. Payment can be made by Visa or MasterCard or in person using cash or Interac. Six person minimum is required to run this course however class sizes are kept small to allow for a lot of one on one time with the instructor.  Registrations are taken on a first come, first serve basis. Register early to avoid disappointment.  Cancellation Policy: Cancellations two weeks prior to the course start date will result in a $35 cancellation fee. Cancellations after that date will not receive a refund.
